The May Gibbs Trust was formed in 1998 and comprised the Hon. Phillip Pendal (Chairman), Kerry Davey JP (Trustee-Treasurer), John Hardwick JP, the Hon Barbara Scott MLC, Mr Ray Turner AM as Trustees, and Cr Lauraine MacPherson as a delegate from the City. The Trust successfully raised funds for the conservation and preservation of the art works of May and Herbert Gibbs acquired by the City in 1997. The acquisition followed the visit to Sydney by Messrs Pendal and Hardwick in 1997 where they viewed the art works, then owned by Mrs Marian Shand (a second cousin of May) and her husband Dr Neil Shand.
